pfft!!

next time i try to curtail my coffee compulsion i'll be less public.

i'm missing my dark, potent companion desperately. sure we have our mornings together, but then it's goodbye until a new dawn.

tea just isn't cutting it. i'm not the tea girl. i have giant hamstrings. girls who drink tea don't have giant hamstrings like me.

we'll see how long i make it. till then it's ladylike tuesday. it's ladylike to drink from a teacup. i'll try to harness this genteel image today. extra pearls to help.

the things i'll do....

dear me how i love that hh o'mine. let me count the ways.

for months he's been wanting to behold all things blue-faced, 10 feet tall, and sapiently humanoid.

in 3-d no less.

i have thrown out every excuse possible:

swine flu

christmas

new year's

i'm too sad for haiti

olympics (brandi?)

i'm too full from a cupcake binge

i hate james cameron and it kills me to give him money

blue faces don't go with my outfit

i've stalled this outing forever. i was still hoping hh would come to his senses, and remember we don't like movies like this. wasn't that part of the whole courting process? netflix nights where we'd watch documentary after documentary. he seducing me with his cerebral cortex and matinee idol good looks. me gushing over his mismatched, bare bachelor apartment, shaking my head at ridiculous other girls whom might care about decor and design (this still makes me giggle).

where did avatar fit? did he not know me?

bribing me with an extra hot latte (he knows me) we set off for the 3:30pm saturday showing. we sat, for what seemed all of lent, and watched a silly story with amazing special effects.

hh was happy. happier was i who still gets giddy from holding my husband's hand in a dark movie theater.

happy weekend

only three more weeks of winter white. i want to store up the cold like nickels in a ceramic pig. giddy is me seeing my breath in the pitch black morning air.

although, maybe i am ready to whisk away this winter coat?

i am suffering a knotty stomach still, from ill behavior of nights long passed.

gossip girl. me. dreadful. not even a clever one either.

i had been invited to a small group of fabulous women with fabulous hair. feeling wee, pedestrian, and unsure of myself i uncomfortably asked about an item of possible town tabloid as my way of cavorting with these prettier, wittier, and more exceptional girls from private schools. luckily they had more class than miserable me. shut my gross attempt to "fit in" down right away. they don't play that way. no wonder i wanted to be in their group.........

hope you all have a lovely weekend.

in the spirit of keeping things classy, i'm sending you off with victoria.

love,

katie

take the time

if you can take twelve minutes. hear and watch something truly beautiful. nothing to learn or know. just experience and be. so nice to not "have to do" anything. after i watching this short little film, benches, trees, buildings, stairways...they all became cinematic stunning to me. from the 8 minute mark on......breathtaking.

oh miss emma

emma watson's new earth friendly clothing line is almost ready to debut. titled "love from emma" and launched by peopletree, this all organic and fair trade line looks british prep school, meets hippie chic. i cannot wait. the 30-page catalog will be available any day.

until then i gathered some of my most favorite photos of pretty miss watson. she's always tickled me pink. every year emma has acted and dressed her age. beautifully. no hurry to hussy it up. she's grown into the prettiest of actresses. and i have a hunch she will continue this captivating path; not rushing the years ahead of her like so many others have done.

off i go

goodbye weekend. good riddance to pity.

nothing like a visit with adored aunt charla to send the scary sadness away.

grilled cheese and homemade lentil soup help too.

new week. fresh start. favorite detests the mopey; he's always commanded a certain dignity. a characteristic his two siblings consistently and miserably fail to supply.

i ferociously ride into this headwind of hurt with my heart lifted high, shoulders square, wearing my sincerest smile.

i get to love.

that's not just icing. that's icing and rainbow sprinkles.

happy weekend

this weekend i need a roomy shirt. a long, loose shirt with stretched sleeves.

a shirt i can leave untucked so i don't fret about a stomach not sucked in.

sleeves to hide freakish goosebumps. whom appear even when doppler reads 80 degrees. warm (to some).

this weekend i hope to wear a mint green scarf of low blood pressure.

i'm going for a bit of a drive. happily. a treasure chest awaits me. i will gladly stay to the right of everyone else. listening to her, breathing in......

breathing out.

favorite and i will read. feel like i'm missing pages or worse a soul. i need an emotional socket converter because i'm not feeling anything yet, and (oh my) the story is sad. i read. unmoved.

{yet, i saw a pigeon in a parking garage wednesday night, and i boo hooed for 30 minutes straight, imagining he was stuck there away from his family.}

we're waiting for the next available bed at the local sanitarium.

my mind lately is one loud pinball machine. bang bang. bounce bounce.

i want watercolor emotions just for a month.....

winter dance

punxsutawney phil's shadow sighting says we're in for 5 more weeks of winter.

bring it on.

please.

tis the problem with living in la la land; where 64 degrees clads me in scarves, puffers, and hats with poms poms. i crave winter weather. snow days? i wish. the only reason people take days off here is to recover from their face-lifts.

yesterday, a temperature of 80 degrees beckoned all things bikini and beach cruiser.

i don't have the proper mood to match all this silly sun.

go away brightness!!! you are the mailman at whom i bark.

arf!! arf!! arf!!! grrrrrrrrrrr!

sawyer

this weekend we found out favorite has cancer.

i have nothing to say. there aren't words, sentences, poems, photos which equal my sawyer's sweetness. i cry stupid, pointless tears.

it's in his lungs.

he has no idea. nothing hurts.

the tail keeps flopping on that damn hardwood floor.

mommy has a new bed downstairs with sawyer. the doctor doesn't know how long. he is old. he has put up with insulin shots twice a day for the last 6 years.

we wait until the tail stops wagging.

whistle while you work

i could so embrace my inner stepford with this new, hip houseware line.

alice supply co. was started right here in my town by the lovliest two ladies. inspired by kate spade and trina turk this fab duo has turned out great fun in toilet plungery and pans o'dust.

even more exciting! come springtime there's talk of ping-pong paddles, hammers, screwdrivers, and gardening tools. they're thinking nautical, navy-white stripe. i'm thinking crap! now i might actually have to help out around the house.

don't you agree, though? chores will be so much yummier with lime-green and rainbow stripes!!

my valentine to all mothers

babies cry.

shocker.

sometimes babies cry on airplanes.

they are not doing this on purpose. they are not evil spawn trying to make your life impossible. they are BABIES. deal with it.

stop being such a donkey with your dirty looks, snarky eye rolls, and nasty comments to the poor mother breaking her back trying to smother said crying baby with bottles, goldfish and stuffed animals.

do you REALLY think she doesn't notice her own child's cry?

i'll bet you 10 MILLION DOLLARS she wants it to stop more than all of us here on this plane.

so cut her a little slack please. this isn't about YOU!

maybe even offer her a hand? make funny faces at the baby, or play hide n seek to make the baby feel more comfortable. it's no wonder a baby cries on airplanes, i've seen how hostile the atmosphere becomes when a mother and young baby enter the cabin.

i doubt you'll read this, but to the sweet, poor mom on flight 6061 to san francisco last thursday afternoon; i want to apologize for the gross and buffoon behavior of the cabin and crew. you did all you could to stifle your precious babe's wails. he wasn't a bad boy, he was tired and scared. your seatmates were the real infants.

magical mood

giddy up summer.

sundress, we're in need of a date!!

i just received my new fragrances, 'you make me happy' & 'magical mind', from the uber-chic mary jo matsumoto of trust your style.

the heady orchid and jasmine are making me loopy, longing for warmer days and nights.

'you make me happy' indeed.

at first whiff, this yummy scent conjures black licorice and anise. but..... let it sit..... for a bit, and you'll recognize vanilla and orchid. this scent surprises me because, at first, it smells sweet, but deep down, i think she's a sultry fragrance (don't let the candy-colored gum drop facade fool you). the beautiful, aloof (just shy) girl with the cool grey nail polish, perfect stringy hair, who listens to leonard cohen, wears 'you make me happy'.

august nights so hot we'd ride around in the back of lindsay armstrong's car just to keep cool; night jasmine perfuming the air, monster ballads on the radio, sandy hair whipping in our faces, prowling the town for parent-free parties; this is what 'magical mood' is to me. mary jo has created a spicy floral with the addition of green forest fir. absolutely magical.

these two rousing scents are organic oils; not in any way chemically enhanced. i adore the roller ball applicators, and the fact that the fetching labels are from recycled paper.

i must say my favorite of the scents is the combination of both. mixing them produces the most intoxicatingly provocative bouquet. channeling sweaty, sizzling evenings with your hunkiest........

you must check out mary jo's etsy shop. there are other fragrances for purchase, and in different forumulas: solid natural perfume, organic hair oil; pure formulas producing the most pristine of quality. she also sells lip balms, scented handkerchiefs, lockets, and cameo pins. each product more unique than the next. i am such a fan.

happy shopping.

love,

katie

in my skin

i've checked my birth certificate; it says orange county. i've been to therapy searching for possible memory repression; nope, i've lived in southern california my entire life. then, why tell me why, is san francisco the only city in the world where i feel like i'm in my own skin?

hh and i took off for the weekend. and as always i felt like i had come home.

home to cooler temps, higher buildings.

art in every cranny.

sunlight glistening all things glossy and brilliant.

people embracing all religions and faiths.

our favorite hotel, understated and elegant.

with a spa tranquil enough to tame your toughest tension.

i think i used up all three canisters of that green tea shampoo and body wash....sorry.

goji berries, walnuts, and a tonic prepped me my go to therapist, gary reyes. i see this foot master every time i'm in the city.

this is where i fell asleep post massage. i'd like to think i reposed like a fairy princess (think aurora): lips pursed, forehead smooth, ankles crossed, toes pointed. but let's face the facts. it was a 90 minute massage. i was most likely snoring; i woke up with drool on my pretty frette robe, my face had massage table ring around it, and my hair resembled tumbleweeds from gary's fantastic grand finale scalp rub.

i did manage to pull it all together for a dreamy vietnamese meal with hh, where we shared bo bia and cassava corn ravioli. super romantic. i cried i was so happy.

we always talk about moving. but we've got such a wonderful life where we ARE. full of the BEST friends and family. if only we could transport them all up north.

oink oink

full disclosure: this is not a review.

i don't eat bacon. anymore.

(pause for moment of silence as i commemorate days of crispy salty, sweet love. love that made all things bad and scary..disappear, for 12 seconds as i chewed and swallowed).

i'm not one of those vegetarians who doesn't miss meat at all (take that double negative and shove it where the seitan don't shine). i crave tofu and tempeh like i crave being hungover. so when my friend, tara simon, started selling her katie treats candied bacon, i tried my best to avoid her.

but unfortunately, my plan to evade my fellow pilates co-worker (yes, you read that correctly; she is also an amazing pilates instructor) worked out disastrously.

her new company, the sticky pig is cooking like betty crocker!!! people are losing their minds over her candied bacon confections. seriously, say those two words together "candied"/"bacon".  they're perfection. that's like  "parisian"/"vacation"...."cashmere"/"bathrobe"..."folded"/'laundry"...(you get the idea). flavors come in coconut curry lime, raspberry jelly doughnut, s'mores, orange ginger, maple cinnamon, apple pecan dulce de leche, dark chocolate peppermint, the elvis, chocolate covered strawberry, and original.

these morsels sell and ship all over the country. orders range from 4 pieces to 12 month supplies.

this is a fabulous valentine's day present....a nice break from the normal chocolate, wine and flowers. how great would these be at your next chi-chi dinner party or reception?

love it tara!
