Side Hair

Side Hair!!!

I have more side hair!!

I refuse to call it cutting bangs.I prefer side hair. It’s just a smidge of hair, sometimes across my forehead, a little on the side of cheek, only to (hopefully) make things more delectable and girly. kind of like a little bit of rainbow sprinkles on a sundae. and definitely don't call it fringe. it's not rickrack or peripheral fracas. just a bit of ruffle for my face.

me knowst what thou thinks. but they're not bangs!! bangs are a commitment. “bangs" connote an earlier alarm clock.....product....styling expertise (i can barely use chopsticks). please? this head is lucky if it gets conditioner. if ever i'm in the shower and need a chuckle, i'll read shampoo's suggestion that i repeat said process. i, then, howl rebelliously.

if, by chance you live in or will be in the southern california area come on over. my side hair specialist is giving away a free hair-cut!

truffle love

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

they're here! my valentines arrived. my mailbox bouncing buoyantly on the block, unable to contain the cheeriness inside.

the truffle girls have gifted us with the opportunity to buy their magic.

the truffle girls: karey and mary. mary takes the photographs that swell pupils and unfurl shrieks.

and karey.

karey.

karey writes words that days later, abate, and finally settle in, to lumps in your throat.

now some of their "candy for the soul" is available for purchase.

there are two available sets of 3 cards. good luck trying to choose. they arrive in the prettiest glasseline envelopes, with an "xoxo" sticker. here are mine. won't they make just the perfect valentine's?

birthday party brilliance

we had a birthday party saturday night.

although, there weren't st. bernards standing in for ponies. alas. i did manage to get to a whipped cream, frosted flower for my piece of the cake (happy heel clicks).

this sweet, candy-colored short validates my point that mommys and rainbow sprinkles can make days brighter.

merry monday friends!

Simple Things

christina is hosting the simple things today.

a call out to bloggers to "show what we appreciate, and what we are grateful for - no matter how big or small, these things may seem."

if christina asked me to dig ditches with her all day long in the hot sun, i'd be the first to sign up.

in an effort to help the haiti rescue and rebuilding, she is giving one dollar to doctors without borders for every participant.

thank you christina for inspiring me daily. here is my laddleful of love to you:

katie's simple things 1/27/2010

freshly scented, french milled soap

clean, empty notepads. ready for my days' plans, ideas, and aspirations.

homemade morning coffee. french pressed with ground cinnamon. a mug reminding me what matters most.

waking up in the middle of the night holding hands with hh.

fresh, inexpensive, trader joe's flowers on my desk

our sweet tree standing tall again. post storm destruction. so glad we were able to keep you in the family.

peanut m& m's, and don't you dare try to substitute plain!!!!!!

profanity. terrible, i know. i'm a good girl otherwise. i just like to swear.

perfume before bed, after my bath.

afternoon naps.

mornings. the promise. the second chance.

this song.......it renders me tear faced every time i hear it. but happy, oh my god, i'm so damn lucky kind of tears.

it's hard to have animosity in your heart with this music in your soul.

i'd love to twirl on fence posts with you,  na-na-na'ing to this song.

happy wednesday. love, katie

black crow

my friend, of all things bad ass and cool, cassie, recently introduced me to the raddest designer.

black crow studios.

black crow customizes avant-garde wallpaper, typically mural size, and abstract in pattern and design. the images you see are NOT computer generated. it IS the actual wallpaper.

they have styles running urban, blissful, and whimsical. it's impossible for me to pick a favorite.

do you crush on one in particular?

happy weekend

wishing m'loves a weekend full of laughter, revelry, relaxation, glee and peace.

the storms in california seem to be easing.

one of our trees was completely uprooted, and flew out of yard. most house plants have been obliterated round here.

which got me thinking.......

here's a sweet, bushy something for YOUR doorstep:

a little gift of greenery from me to you. because, i'm thoughtful.

happy weekend.

love, katie

rain day

quite the storms we're having here.

a tornado is in effect. secretly hoping i wake up with munchkins and men of tin.

have i mentioned how much i enjoy the rain?

one puddle, and i'm six years old again.

i'm envying every single hunter boot i see.

or these kate spade's

there's a glamour requited of rain. a pomp and circumstance. another reason for me to relish in its visits.

and it's lovely to love in the rain.........

alfresco daydream

we're having 'storm-watch' 2010 here in so-cal (insert eye roll). i do love a nice (rare) spritz here in sunny-ville, but these photographs do have me longing for skies of blue and cocktails with sand between my toes.

i read about this company in vogue. literally "a restaurant without walls," they ramble the country making meals in open fields, sandy beaches, or in forests made for fairy-tales.

join me for a daydream?

stormy waters

wave_zoomi just. can't. shake. the stormy waters in my heart. the keyboard waits.....and waits,....and waits for me to say something fetching. nothing to type. no fancy pants to fashion me gaga, girly, and giddy.

this lump here in my throat has grown roots and has ordered cable tv.

sleep deprived, i'm saying yes please to more hours of work so that i won't be home watching. the devastation, the misery, the death. the bodies. the bulldozers. mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, babies, pets, babies.my life embarrasses me today. a text doesn't seem suffice. my legs, my lungs, my heart, my back....strong. i want to physically suffer so that someone else feels better. i don't need anyone to know about it. fly me in covertly, let me help. i won't cause a stink. i won't tell, boast or brag. just let me fucking help.

haiti

Who has not sat before his own heart's curtain? It lifts: and the scenery is falling apart.

-Rainer Maria Rilke

many despicable scammers are already out there taking advantage of this horrendous tragedy.  the following (2) are trustworthy:

-- Texting HAITI to 90999: The U.S. Department of State's Web site suggests texting "HAITI" to "90999" to donate $10 to the Red Cross to help with relief efforts. The $10 will be charged to your cell phone bill. Or you can go online to organizations like the Red Cross and Mercy Corps to contribute to the disaster relief efforts.-- Texting YELE to 501501: On Twitter, musician Wyclef Jean, a native of Haiti, notes, "Haiti needs your help text YELE to 501501 and 5 dollars will go toward earthquake relief." Yele Haiti is a grassroots movement Jean has set up to inspire change in Haiti through programs in education, sports, the arts and environment.

and POOF!!! they're everywhere!!!

first time i saw them (ali wentworth's home in elle decor) i swooned. i mean how perfect?! pretty much a tailored beanbag right? i coveted my own ginormous lilac pouf. i fantasized crossing my ladylike ankles (fantasy here people) atop said leathered fancyball, relishing my luck in scoring the birkin bag of the decor world.

at first it was nice to see (every once in a while) what people were doing with their razzle-dazzle hued spheres.

yet, to my dismay it seems as if there is a new epidemic on the rise. swine flu is no longer the virus to fear my loves. pouf flu is now taking over the households across america, and we need to stop it!

so it's up to us my friends. we must stand strong and fine feathered against  this leathered nudge. let us be independent in our interior design endeavors.

tally-ho!!

cloud nine weekend

oh my! don't you just love open weekends that just melt seamlessly from no plans set, let's see where the hour takes us to ....well isn't this delightful and unexpected? this morning i found myself making snow angels lying in bed;  giddy still from our joyful non-events.

i think the weather played a major role in my dreamy weekend. seventy degrees, skies pale blue, just enough clouds to make it girly and scenic.

let me summarize (smile).

the beasts got an outing to the park.

football silliness at the local high school.

a presidential 40 yd field goal kick costing hh to fess up the big dough in a lost bet.

i found my new favorite nail shade.

the MOST beautiful flowers (big, fat peonies!!!!!) delivered to my doorstep

fish taco so delicious, only expletives and moans suffice.

a bubblebath or two. or four or five.

where i finally finished a nice, didn't suck, book of short stories.

all the while green fiddlehead fragranced the house with tea, clean cut grass, and spearmint.

and as you can tell, i'm back to taking photos again. sadly, alice, at only 3 months old, was on the fritz. a lemon. i had to return her. tamra is her replacement. i'm already attached. tamra the camera is a sassy shot and hasn't given me any grief since we've started courting. i think i've found my new dance partner.

happy monday friends!

happy weekend

dahlings what are you plans for the forty eight hour holiday? dancing? drinks? dates? my plans aren't set.....yet. i know there will be huffing and puffing, and tucking and squeezing. and that's just when i'm on the clock.

one thing i am craving is more girl time.

belly laughs. the crying that unclogs that thing in your throat that's been there for months. head on my shoulder as i play with your hair, looking for split ends. omitting prepositions and nouns......we know what you mean. your index finger to the sky swirling, head bobbing up and down, eyes rolled.....even with your mouth full of chardonnay it's crystal clear: your husband's boss' wife, the one who got so wasted at the christmas party, wants to be best friends and won't leave you alone.

i need more of this. even better if we don kimonos, smoke from long pipes, and play dominos.

happy weekend. love, katie

the road

only 241 pages, but what a punch packed. it's been over a year since my hands held those haunting pages, but i'm still unstrung by mr mccarthy's prose. a love story like none other i've ever read. a father. a son.

the film stayed sincere to my memory of the book. few ever do. i was a bit disappointed as i had hoped the director would have taken license with mccarthy's ridiculous(my opinion) ending. still didn't change my esteem for this read.

i loved the debate this story provoked. especially among those i adore , whose opinion i value highest. how fiercely we can disagree?!! fire in my belly, ears aflame.

have you read the road? have you seen the movie? thoughts? opinions? did you care for it? did it move you like it moved me? thoughts on the conclusion?
